Hailey Bohlin is a freshman honor student at Highland High School. She is very excited to share her love and gift of music as she performs for the Hoosier STAR audience this evening. Hailey began performing at a very young age and credits her family for introducing her to song and the love of singing. She began singing songs on a Karaoke system with her grandmother at the age of two and performed in various school talent shows. She is currently a member of the Advanced Girl’s Choir. Since becoming a Hoosier STAR finalist, she recently started working with vocal coach, Earl Harville, at HGS Studios in Highland, Indiana. In addition to singing, Hailey enjoys playing softball, drawing, dancing, shopping and has volunteered for years helping senior citizens at Hartsfield Village’s Nursing Care in Munster, Indiana. Hailey had the honor of singing the National Anthem for Highland Youth Softball Association’s Opening Day. She would like to thank her family, friends, teachers, coaches, sponsors and the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra for this amazing experience!

Jordan DeVaney is a sophomore at Avon High School and sings in the Avon High school Choir. She has enjoyed singing for her family and friends for many years and feels that singing is a way to express herself. She feels that every song has a meaning to it and tries to connect with the music. She has enjoyed singing at retirement homes during the holidays and has sung the National Anthem for many of the basketball and football games for the middle schools. Jordan performed at the Seymour October Festival for the last two years and she placed both times. She performed Taylor Swift’s Teardrops On My Guitar at the county fair and won first place which advanced her to the state fair which was a wonderful experience. In September every year, the town of Avon puts on the Heritage Festival where she was able to perform in front of many of her friends and family and took first place. In addition to her love for singing and writing music, Jordan plays fast pitch softball with her friends for Avon Elite. She plays left field and enjoys chasing after pop flies. She likes shopping with her friends and just hanging out. She is very excited to have been chosen to perform in Hoosier STAR and will do her best to entertain all of you. She believes everyone should shoot for their dreams and never give up what they love to do!
Shania Dozier has always had a love for singing and all kinds of music, especially country. She has been a finalist in the Colgate – (now) Texaco Country Showdown and has won the talent competition repetitively for the Scarecrow Festival Talent Show. In addition to singing the National Anthem for Morgan Township school functions and singing in her high school choir as a freshman and sophomore, she also performed for 4-H Banquets, Share the Fun and Wanatah Legion’s Christmas Party. A few of Shania’s favorite performers include Loretta Lynn, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw and Alan Jackson. She states, “I never sing anything that doesn’t have meaning to me in some way, whether the lyrics make me laugh or cry, or give me a way to show my attitude, they always have some connection to me.” Shania ALWAYS performs barefoot and feels that it really helps with the nerves. She also states, “Hoosier STAR is most definitely the most prestigious competition I’ve ever participated in, and I look forward to performing!”

Miranda Steele is a senior at La Porte High School where she is honored to play varsity volleyball and spend another exciting year in the LPHS Choral Department. She grew up having a passion for God music under the influence of the First United Methodist Church family and has been singing in church since she was very young. Miranda states that she would have never found her voice without wonderful people like Rose Marie Dure, her parents and the FUMC Praise Team. She would like to thank her church family for always being supportive, loving and inspiring. Miranda feels that she would not be the person she is today without the incredible inspiration of her sister, Olivia Steele. “Someday I want to be just like you, big sis!” Miranda states. She would also like to thank her daddy for always being her biggest fan and her mom for always teaching her to do the right thing. To continue her musical journey, she plans to attend Indiana University next fall. Everyone has a voice and a different gift to share. Miranda is honored to be sharing her gift of song.

Grace Tarnow is always the first one to jump for a singing opportunity. Having enjoyed her Hoosier STAR 2010 experience, she was thrilled to be selected as a youth finalist again for 2012. She recently started seventh grade at Kesling Middle School, where she participates in her second year of violin and Show Choir. Grace also enjoys dance, tennis, swimming and basketball, but if she has any free time, you’ll always hear her singing or find her listening to music! Being a previous Hoosier STAR finalist provided many performing opportunities, such as singing with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra at the Summer Concert Series, Holiday at the Pops, and the April Pops Concert. La Porte First Church of God is also one of her favorite places to sing. Grace reflects, “I always get nervous before going on stage (who doesn’t), but once I get up there all the butterflies go away and the music comes out of me like it’s meant to.” Grace would like to express her appreciation to all her supportive friends and family who have always been there for her. She especially wishes to thank the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra for bringing her dreams to life once again.
