Tom Bancsi is an occupational therapist, specializing in adult physical and cognitive disabilities.  He received his Master’s Degree from Governor’s State University and is a member of the adjunct faculty of Ivy Tech College where he has been teaching Anatomy and Physiology since 2003.  He and his wife, Dawn, co-wrote, cast, directed and produced the musical, Pearl, Your Helpful Corsetiere, in collaboration with his mother, Ruth who wrote twenty-eight original songs and Rich Trout, whose mother, Pearl, was the basis and inspiration for the production.  Tom appeared in many roles on the Matteson Community Theater stage and worked as an extra, was a member of the stunt team and had bit parts in two seasons of The Untouchables.  He also appeared in John Hughes’ films, Baby’s Day Out, Miracle on Thirty-Fourth Street and Saving Isaiah, as well as Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers.  Tom loves spending down-time with his wife, two rescue dogs, four cats, five chickens and a thousand guppies.  The words taken from his Hoosier STAR song, “Everybody loves somebody sometime, and although my dreams were overdue, your love made it well worth waiting for someone like you” are dedicated to his wife, Dawn, who fills his world.  Tom would also like to dedicate his Hoosier STAR performance to his parents, Tom and Ruth, who have both passed, but are always with him in spirit and his friends, family and Debbie Merrill who forced him to fill out the Hoosier STAR audition application.  Many thanks are extended to Dean Martin for making “Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime” a number one hit in 1964, knocking the Beatles to number two.

Darcel McCoy, Jr. was born in Gary, Indiana and moved to Michigan City at the age of 6.  Since his father was a pastor and evangelist, Darcel spent a great deal of his time in the church.  His passion for music was developed at a very young age due to the talent of both of his parents.  As singers, they encouraged singing as a family and Darcel remembers singing and breaking off into harmony almost everywhere they went.  One of the most difficult days of his life came when he was about to graduate from high school at the age of 18.  His father was killed by a drunk driver.  One of the most important things that has helped him cope with this terrible loss was music.  Since that time he uses his voice to minister and provide comfort and help to others as he follows in his father’s footsteps as an evangelist.  Darcel hopes that his performance will touch the hearts of many as he dedicates it to the loving memory of his father, Darcel McCoy, Sr.

Jeremiah Souza possesses a lifelong love of music and the dream of someday singing professionally.  As a young child, he sang for the residents at local retirement homes – not only for their enjoyment, but also for his own.  In high school, he won numerous music awards and scholarships for his trumpet playing.  He also composed some piano duets and arrangements for his school’s orchestra.  He achieved all of these accomplishments without any formal training.  In 2010, his dreams of taking his love of music further were realized when he was accepted into the University of Tennessee School of Music.  Tragically, just two weeks before he was to leave for Tennessee, chemicals spilled at his place of work, which burned his lungs.  Due to a long recovery and the loss of 20% of his lungs, his dreams had to be set aside.  After much hard work, he was able to regain his singing ability.  Since then, he has performed for many corporate events, as well as at numerous weddings, locally and nationally.  After years of auditioning, Jeremiah is honored to be a 2013 Hoosier STAR finalist and knows that this is one more step towards fulfilling his dreams.  Jeremiah would like to thank all of those family members and friends who have supported him throughout not only his musical career, but also his life.  This past summer he performed the lead role of Angel in Dunes Summer Theatre’s production of Rent.

Arthur Stark honed his musical skills as a full time church musician and director for over twenty years.  Since 2002, Arthur, a self-professed, late-bloomer vocalist, has been singing in the kitchen of his co-owned café in Schererville, IN. A native of California, Arthur found Northwest Indiana by attending and graduating from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer.  The opportunity to sing with a symphony is a lifelong dream of his, and he is extremely honored to be one of the Hoosier STAR 2013 finalists.  As much as he cherishes the experience of singing at over 1400 weddings, he believes he is in his prime as a vocalist and looks forward to the next call from the Boston Pops!  Even though he works 24/7 at his business, he still finds an hour here or there to continue his first love of composing.  Currently he is working on a collection of original songs.  Arthur and his family presently live in Schererville, just two minutes from his café!  Should someone tell you that Arthur is the current 2013 “Dancing with the Local Stars Champion”. . . it was a brief “once only” episode that he says gave him the opportunity to find muscles that he hasn’t seen since 1982.

A fifth generation musician, Hannah is no stranger to the world of music.  She sang her first solo at the young age of 2 and has participated in musicals and choirs since the age of 4.  She has had the privilege of recording vocals on two different albums, and plans to record more in the future.  Hannah spent her high school years in Brazil, South America with her family helping the natives build water purification systems for their villages.  While she was there, she was able to sing at special musical events, representing the American culture.  Hannah has taught piano and guitar to elementary students, as well as rhythm and singing to preschool students ages 2-5.  Hannah is currently a worship leader at her home church in Crown Point, IN. and a vocal mentor for junior high and high school girls.  She attends Purdue University and plans to graduate in May of 2014.   She is looking forward to sharing her talent with the Hoosier STAR audience and the opportunity to perform with a live orchestra.
